As someone living with celiac disease, finding gluten-free products that actually taste great — and don’t require hours in the kitchen — can be a challenge. That’s why my family and I have been testing various gluten-free ready mixes lately. With my days packed full of studying, working, and raising a family, we’ve been gravitating toward easy, fuss-free options that don’t compromise on taste.
One of the recent stars in our kitchen was Glutagon’s Gluten-Free Classic Waffle Mix — and we gave it a proper trial run on the 5th of July 2025, which turned out to be the perfect comfort treat for a chilly Namibian winter night.
If you’ve never heard of Glutagon, they’re a South African brand dedicated to gluten-free foods — and they’re quickly becoming a staple in our home. Their range includes everything from flours and bread mixes to muffins and waffles. This post is all about the waffles — and spoiler alert: we’ll definitely be buying them again!
Fast, Easy and Actually Delicious
We followed the recipe on the box, and true to its promise, the prep was quick and simple. Apart from the mix itself, you only need a few pantry staples — things most people already have at home (if you’d like guidance on what we used, drop me a message or comment below). The entire mixing process took just a few minutes.
Once the batter was ready, we fired up the waffle iron and got to work. Glutagon recommends a 3 to 4-minute baking time, and we found that 4 minutes worked perfectly in our iron. Depending on your own equipment and taste preferences, you might need to adjust slightly.
We ended up with 7 generous waffles in total — plenty for our small family. The only downside? Cleaning the waffle iron took longer than making the waffles! But that’s just the nature of waffle-making — and Glutagon also offers a muffin mix, which we’ll be testing soon. Muffins are even quicker since you can bake and forget (but don’t forget to set a timer before you forget) — and cleaning a muffin pan is much easier too!
Texture, Taste & Versatility
Now, the big question: how do they taste?
Honestly — amazing. The texture was just right: crisp on the outside, soft and fluffy inside. And the best part? They taste just like regular waffles. My family, who don’t have celiac disease, couldn’t tell the difference — and I might even argue they’re better than traditional gluten versions.
They also freeze well. We popped a few extras into a Tupperware and reheated them in the microwave — no lengthy defrosting required, and the texture held up beautifully.
Final Thoughts
It’s encouraging to see how far gluten-free products have come. What used to be a struggle is now a genuine pleasure, thanks to brands like Glutagon. Their Classic Waffle Mix is affordable, convenient, family-friendly and most importantly — delicious.
Whether you have celiac disease like me, are gluten intolerant, or just want to explore better-for-you options, Glutagon’s waffles are a great addition to your pantry.
We’ll be reviewing their muffin mix next, so keep an eye out for that.
Have you tried any of Glutagon’s mixes? I’d love to hear your thoughts!
